Can i stop my mother in law seeing my daughter?

My mother in law hasnt bothered to see my child for 10 mths, she didnt even send a xmas present for my childs 1st xmas! but she gave my partners brothers child expensive gifts, and our child got nothing from her! My partners brothers gf is always txting me telling me what her child gets from my mother in law! My mother in laws started saying that she has more rights over my child than anyone else! She said shes going to take me to court to get costody of my child! She hasnt bothered with my child up untill now so whys she wanting to see my child now. My child doesnt know who she is because she hasnt bothered with my child before! My mother in lawfavors my partners brothers child to ours, my mother in law (MIL) is oover at my partners brothers house every weekend, but she doesnt come to see our child at all! She doesnt even calk to ask how our child is! She now seems to think she can walk bk into our childs life, but i dont want my child to see her and get close to her encase my MIL does this again, i dont want my child getting upset! My child doesnt even know who her grandma is! what should i do?
