There will be a record of this event happening, but you won't have a criminal record (which is what I assume you're worried about). You are, in fact, on the good side of the police action. If you choose to press charges, you can basically have these people charged with a number of things (e.g. assault and battery), or you can file a civil suit against them to try to get some money. Either way, you shouldn't be worried about it.
